Train to Teach with Lincolnshire ITT

For those who want to get into teaching, South Lincolnshire Academies Trust (SLAT) are now one of the Lead Partners for Lincolnshire ITT and can talk to you about starting your teaching journey with us.

If you would like to gain a recognised Teacher Training qualification and be trained by one of the most successful Trusts in the Country with the prospect of gaining full time employment at one of our Trust schools, we would love to hear from you.

Lincolnshire ITT are an established teacher training provider who were graded as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in January 2024. Through this partnership, we can offer one-year school centred Initial Teacher Training across Lincolnshire and Greater Lincolnshire and are committed to inspiring the next generation of teachers to make a difference to the life chances of young people in our region.

We can offer local placements in secondary schools in the following regions: South Lincolnshire (Bourne, Spalding and Peterborough), Boston and East Lindsey, Grantham, Sleaford, North East Lincolnshire, Lincoln and surrounding villages.

For those who live close to Lincolnshire in areas such as Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, Rutland and Fenland, this will provide additional career opportunities to train to teach.

Once qualified, our Trust have an exceptional and highly commended ECT induction programme, which provides robust and tailored support for the early part of your teaching career.

The ITT Programme

The practical and school-based nature of the one-year training programme ensures that all trainees will become career ready, confident teachers. Lincolnshire ITT will work with SLAT to ensure that trainees are placed locally as part of their commitment to work life balance.

Trainees build their teaching commitment gradually as their confidence grows – a very personalised approach is taken.

All training is delivered by local or national experts, to ensure that trainees have access to current research and best practice.

A long-standing partnership with the University of Lincoln means that the PGCE (60 master’s credits) is integrated into the ITT programme. As well as support from our experienced ITT team and in-school Induction Tutors, trainees will have full access to university services as well.

Training duration

On this one-year training programme, trainees will have one day a week out of school for training and four days a week in their host school. During the course, all trainees will complete a second school placement for one half term to ensure they experience a different school setting.

Fees and funding

The fee for SCITT QTS and PGCE is £9,250.

  • The trainee pays the fee for the training and assessment.
  • They may access student finance funding.
  • Trainees on this route will be supernumerary and will gradually build up their teaching over time. They are managed by the SCITT and although placed in schools, they are the SCITT’s responsibility under the trainee agreement. This is the route we are most familiar with up to now.
  • Secondary trainees may be entitled to a bursary if they have a minimum of a 2:2 degree and if they are training to teach in any of the eligible subjects.

Assessment Only Route

As an alternative to the SCITT route, we also offer an Assessment Only Route (AOR).

If you are currently working as an unqualified instructor you can achieve QTS via this route if you have a degree and substantial experience of working in a school environment (usually 2 years). This option would allow you to gain QTS without undergoing a teacher training programme. If you have a good degree but no school experience, it is still possible to proceed via this route but you would need to spend some time with us as an unqualified instructor.

  • For more information on how we can support you, please contact Miss Vanessa Weekes, SLAT Director of Human Resources via WeekesV@bourneacademy.org in the first instance who will ensure you are directed to the appropriate person.
